A three hour ferry ride (50 minutes if you pay for the fast boat) from
Buenos Aires brought us to the super-picturesque colonial city of
Colonia, Uruguay. Things were very quiet here as it´s the start of winter, but during the summer,
Porteños (folks from
Buenos Aires) flock here for

weekends and

holidays. From
Colonia we took a bus to the capital city of Montevideo. Though not nearly as picturesque as
Colonia, we still had a good time wandering around the city, exploring the port and eating more meat (they love their
bbqs down here). One of the strangest sites were the
garbagemen that travelled the busy city streets in archaic,
horse drawn carts

. For a change of pace (getting lost, meeting the gas station guys & seeing more than the main roads), Brendan and I rented a car in Montevideo and headed to the huge beach town of
Punta del Este. It was really quiet due to the time of year, but easy to imagine these beaches/marinas packed with sun & sea worshippers during the height of summer.
